10 EASY DIY CHRISTMAS CRAFTS FOR ADULTS

The holiday season is perfect for experimenting with decorations and creating things that remind you of specific moments from each Christmas.

If you really enjoy trying new decorating projects, you can attempt one each year, gradually building your collection.

Below, you’ll find some ideas that I consider easy, beautiful, and doable for any family member. You could even turn this into a family tradition.

1. Christmas Tree Ornaments

Forget about traditional, boring ornaments and suggest a new way to decorate the tree with your family—there are so many options that they seem unlimited!

You can make almost anything hanging, but you can start by decorating your own Christmas balls with the names of family members to recycle and avoid starting from scratch.

You can also use your old Christmas balls as a base and wrap them in macrame cord for a fresh look.

Additionally, you can create your own shapes like Christmas trees, snowflakes, Santa, christmas reindeer or anything else that can be hung, decorating them with markers, glitter, or tempera paint.

2. Baking and Decorating Christmas Cookies

Although it’s not exactly a DIY, if decorating is one of your passions, you can buy or bake the cookies from scratch.

For decoration, you can use pastry cream and tint it with food coloring. You’ll need to either buy the pastry cream or make it yourself.

You can find the food coloring at this link, and if you have a specific shape in mind that you want to decorate with friends or family, you can find the molds on Amazon.

3. Decorating Plates with Paint and Porcelain Clay

Just like the cookies, you can start this project from scratch by making your own ceramic or porcelain plates with ready-to-use mixes that don’t need to be fired, or you can buy plates directly at this link.

Acrylic paint is the best choice for this type of project. You can find any colors you want for your decorations or buy primary colors and mix them to create the shades you’re looking for.

Keep in mind Christmas designs, or if you’d like to make these decorated plates a Christmas gift, they will be well received.

Don’t forget to buy a ceramic polish to give it the finishing touch and a shiny, neat finish.

4. Knitting from Patterns

If you’re really handy and have developed knitting skills, this is your opportunity to create dolls, scarves, or gloves that your family might need as gifts or as a family project.

If not, you can find videos on YouTube that easily teach different knitting techniques.

However, there’s another simpler alternative for those who don’t want to learn to knit from scratch: you can use patterns and knit over them with yarn and needles. It’s super easy, and even a child can do it!

5. Decorating Fabric for Christmas Pillows with Patterns

You can make your own pillows simply by buying fabric and creating your own Christmas designs through painting, embroidery, or adding a combination of both.

Remember that for painting fabric, you should use special fabric paint that is water-resistant.

Christmas pillows are always a great addition, and I think they make the perfect gift for someone who is recently decorating their home and doesn’t have much decor yet.

These patterns can be in 2D or 3D, allowing you to add lots of details that stand out. You can create a painted design and add embellishments like buttons, fabrics, or beadwork to give your pillows a lovely touch.

6. Making and Decorating Christmas Stockings and Hats

You can apply the same principles mentioned earlier to decorate your Christmas stockings and hats.

However, if you enjoy making everything from scratch, you can find patterns for stockings and hats, buy red, blue, gold, green, or silver fabric, and create as many hats and stockings as your family size requires.

Or, if you’re simply looking for a special gift that will touch the hearts of all your loved ones, this is the perfect choice.

7. Christmas wreath principal door

I think what I love most about this idea is the versatility, as you can make your Christmas wreaths pretty much any way you want.

You can use different materials, such as garlands, fabric pom-poms, leaves, macramé cords, and countless decorations. You can stick to Christmas colors or mix festive tones with Christmas-themed figures like candy canes.

You can also add signs in the middle made of MDF, featuring phrases like “Merry Christmas,” “Welcome”.

And don’t forget to add large, eye-catching bows to give it the finishing touch—everyone will love this project!

8. Christmas wood crafts

With wood, you can create almost anything from a Christmas tree to ornaments for your Christmas trees.

It can be a project as big as you want it to be.

An excellent way to make wooden Christmas decorations is by creating coasters. You’ll use them every Christmas to come, and you can paint them however you like, with any design you choose.

Get some wood paint and a wood sealant to make the coasters shiny. Remember to use quality brushes for a better finish on your decorations.

9. Gingerbread Houses

These gingerbread houses have become quite popular lately, to the point that they sell kits with everything you need to decorate Christmas houses.

However, if you enjoy making everything from scratch, you can bake the walls and roof in any flavor you prefer, whether it’s vanilla, chocolate, or the traditional gingerbread.

Remember to let them cool before decorating.

Buy piping bags in different sizes for the smaller details of your houses.

10. Christmas Candles

Candles are my favorite option.

They are a timeless gift and a project you can create in a thousand ways.

You can use jars to make candles in your own containers.

Or if you prefer molds, there are thousands available on the market, making this a great option for you.

You can find complete candle-making kits on Amazon.

However, I recommend considering that some types of wax look better than paraffin for molds.

With jars, you can also unleash your creativity and decorate them however you like.

Remember, they can also be scented candles to enhance your spaces. You can choose scents like cookies and cream, lemon, lavender, coconut, or vanilla.

These ideas are mostly for adults, but I think children, under adult supervision, could also enjoy them a lot.
